Description
In this course students will get acquainted with the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPS). The three major disciplines of the Research Clusters of the LACDR correspond to the BPS Research Specialisations Drug & Target Discovery, BioTherapeutics, and Systems Pharmacology. The Research Clusters will briefly introduce their research, giving the students an overview of the possibilities within the LACDR. Furthermore, the collaboration with the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) and the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) will be addressed. Next, the students will follow one of the three Cluster-specific parts of the course programme in the discipline that corresponds with their BPS Research Specialisation or their cluster of Research Project 1.

Admission requirements
First year Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences master students.
Mode of instruction
Lectures, computer exercises, writing of a rsearchproject proposal, presentations and discussions.

Course objectives
The student will write a project proposal
The student obtains knowledge about research topics of the cluster of his/her specialisation
The student is familiar with the research conducted at and possibilities within the LACDR and CHDR
The student will compose and present a scientific poster
Assessment method
Written research project proposal (50%), written exam (50%). Attending safety training is mandatory.
Timetable
For students starting between February 2nd 2017 and September 1st 2017: First few weeks of September 2017. For students starting from September 2nd 2017 until February 1st 2017: First fewe weeks of February 2018r. The exact timetable will be peresented on Blackboard.
