Major requirements:
15 EC: Complete the three compulsory 100-level courses from the core tracks, namely Principles of Public International Law, Introduction to Socio-legal Studies, and Sovereignty & Statehood.
5 EC: Complete the compulsory methodology course Research Design in International Justice.
10 EC: Complete two of the three methodology courses, namely Legal Methods Lab, Advocacy & Litigation, or Qualitative Research Methods. It is strongly recommended that students take Legal Methods Lab as it offers foundational skills for the major. Students intending on using qualitative methods (e.g., interviews/focus groups/surveys etc.) for their Capstone are recommended to take the Qualitative Research Methods course.
10 EC: Complete one of the three IJ core tracks “International Law”, “Human Rights & Society”, and “Statehood an Integration”. Since you will have already done the 100-level courses of each of these tracks (see above), you will need to take an additional 10 EC (200-level course + 300-level course) to complete one core track.
20-30 EC: Complete two more IJ tracks from among the core tracks and/or the co-convened tracks (GED/IJ and Gender Studies). Completing a track means taking one 100-, one 200-, and one 300-level course in the track.
5-15 EC: Complete additional IJ courses to reach 85 EC in total for the major, at least one of which must be at the 300-level.
10 EC: Capstone thesis.
Note: it is mandatory to complete at least four courses within your Major at the 300-level.
