Master’s thesis and requirements for graduation
The objectives of the Research master’s programme in Classics and Ancient Near Eastern Civilisations are:
Structure
The programme of the Research Master Classics and Ancient Near Eastern Civilisations comprises a number of components. The study load runs up to 120 ECTS and is divided over four semesters:
Core courses (20 ECTS)
Track electives (60 ECTS)
Tutorial in preparation for the thesis (10 ECTS)
Presentation and research proposal (5 ECTS)
Thesis (25 ECTS)
Apart from the obligatory core courses, a student of the Research Master programme follows a number of tracks electives within the programme. Though some of these track electives are shared with the regular MA-programmes, students in the Researchmaster follow these courses at a more advanced level.
Each track focuses on one of 5 specialisations. These specialisations are:
Assyriology
Classics
Egyptology
Hebrew Bible Studies
New Testament and Early Christian Studies
To complete the specialisation for which you have been accepted, you will have to accumulate 60 ECTS and a thesis in your field of specialisation. A number of track electives can be replaced by a stay abroad.
In order to graduate, students must have successfully completed the 120 ects programme and have completed their final thesis as a component of that programme. The thesis is worth 25 ects, and is preceded by a tutorial in preparation for the thesis (5 ECTS) in the first semester.
