German is the most spoken language in the European Union with 100 million native speakers. Knowledge about the German language and cultural area is therefore essential to understand present-day Europe and its history. The minor program in German language, culture, and history provides students with the basic skills necessary for this understanding. It is structured as an introduction to German studies and the main branches of science within this field. The focus lies on modern German history, contemporary German language and literature, and the cultural and linguistic methods used to investigate cultural and linguistic phenomena.
This minor offers an excellent opportunity to acquire part of the subject-specific and language-specific knowledge and skills needed to be admitted as a lateral entry student to the teacher training program.
