Students who choose to take the Research Master Programme with a specialisation in Clinical and Health Psychology acquire in-depth knowledge of a broad range of theories and research domains in this area. The major aim of this Research Master programme is to provide students with a theoretical background for Clinical and Health Psychology research, assessment and interventions. This includes the acquisition of knowledge relevant to the assessment and treatment of psychopathology, as well as to health promotion and disease prevention and the self-management of chronic diseases. Students acquire advanced research skills by participating in a clinical psychology or health psychology research project.
This specialisation examines new theoretical models and research methods in an informed and critical way in order to prepare students for progression to a PhD programme. Students do this by studying the main theories, methods, and findings of contemporary research in Clinical and Health Psychology. Elective modules can also be taken from other programmes. Additionally, students in the research programme receive extensive training in advanced academic and research skills. During their research internship and thesis, they focus on a specific topic of their interest in which they acquire hands-on experience by participating in one of the ongoing research projects on the field of Clinical or Health Psychology, under close supervision of the research faculty in research tutorials. Master’s programme – Track Clinical and Health Psychology.
If students wish, they can combine their Research Master track Clinical and Health psychology with courses from the programme of the one-year MSc Clinical psychology in order to qualify for post-master vocational training in the field of mental health care.
Successful completion of this extended programme results in one master diploma (RM) with additional certificates to prove that the student meets the requirements for post-master vocational training for ‘Psychotherapeut’ or ‘Gezondheidszorgpsycholoog’.
For more information please contact Prof. dr. Ph. Spinhoven .
In several advanced-level modules, students acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of a range of theories, issues and research domains.
Students can choose 10 EC to further specialize in their area of interest and prepare for their thesis. Modules should be chosen in consultation with their supervisor for their master’s thesis. This involves modules offered in the professional master programme (MSc) of this or in other (research) master programmes of Psychology.
The compulsory coursework consists of advanced training in academic and research skills. The design and placement of these modules is designed in such a way that students can immediately apply their newly acquired skills to their own research project. This methodologically-oriented part of the curriculum consists of 9 modules.
