Earth, Energy, and Sustainability (LUC)

Currently at 7 billion, the Earth’s population is on target to reach 8 billion by 2027. What are some of the key sustainability challenges confronting society at the moment, and in the future? Are there solutions for some of these challenges? And what can you do to make a real change in this world? Leiden University College’s major Earth, Energy and Sustainability might be what you are looking for.

Major tracks:

  • Ecosystem Health

  • Earth System Science

  • Energy & Natural Resources

  • EES/GED co-convened track

  • Health & Environment (EES/GPH)

Major requirements:

  • 15 EC: Compulsory 100-level courses, namely Environmental Science, Earth System Science and Energy, and Resource Management

  • 20 EC: Complete two of the following three tracks: Ecosystem Health, Earth System Science, Energy and Natural Resources tracks (at least one class at 100, 200, and 300-level per track)

  • 15 EC: Methodology courses, namely Quantitative Research Methods and two other method courses (at 200-level or 300-level)

  • 10 EC: Capstone

  • 20 EC: Additional courses tagged with EES, which can include additional method courses

  • NOTE: make sure to have at least 4 courses at the 300-level, which can include (300-level) method courses
