Our new staffmember Prof.dr. Jos. C.N. Raadschelders teaches Philosophy of Public Administration. This course can be used as a specialisation course by students of the following tracks:

and students of the track Crisis and Security Management

This course can be used as a _elective_course by students of the MSc Crisis and Security Management.

Crisis and Security Management

Vanwege het grote succes van deze specialisatie zal Crisis and Security Management vanaf februari 2012 aangeboden worden als een zelfstandige masteropleiding. Voor dat instroommoment kun je je dus niet meer inschrijven voor deze masterspecialisatie, maar alleen nog voor de masteropleiding. De opleiding wordt gegeven aan het Instituut Bestuurskunde aan de Campus Den Haag van de Universiteit Leiden. De opleiding leidt tot de graad MSc in Crisis and Security Management.

European Governance

De specialisatie European Governance is ontworpen om studenten een uitgebreide kennis van de belangrijkste theoretische en empirische vraagstukken te geven in relatie tot bestuur in Europa. In de meeste cursussen ligt de nadruk op de Europese Unie, met bijzondere aandacht voor de invloed van de EU als een geheel van bestuursstructuren achter de natiestaat. De seminars van deze specialisatie concentreren zich op multilevel governance in de EU, EU instituties en besluitvorming, en beleidsimplementatie op diverse gebieden.

International Administration

De specialisatie International Administration legt de nadruk op het onderscheidende karakter en de groeiende invloed van internationale organisaties op het gebied van diensten en beleidsontwikkelingen. Deze specialisatie behandelt niet alleen organisaties variërend in schaal en bereik van de Verenigde Naties tot aan mensenrechtenorganisaties, maar ook de complexe nationale en internationale contexten waarbinnen dergelijke organisaties opereren.

Public Policy, Lobbying and Media

Deze specialisatie richt zich zowel op het beleidsproces als op de inhoud van publiek beleid. Een focus op het beleidsproces neemt zowel private als publieke belangen in ogenschouw in beleidsontwikkeling van de overheid. Twee van de belangrijkste manieren om dergelijke belangen te verdedigen zijn via het direct proberen te beïnvloeden van gekozen bestuurders (lobbyen) en door de communicatie van ideeën en voorstellen in diverse media.

In order to graduate every student has to participate in these mandatory courses courses:

Research Design (5.0 ECTS)
State of the Art-Public Institutions (5.0 ECTS)
State of the Art-Public Policy (5.0 ECTS)
State of the Art-Public Management (5.0 ECTS)
State of the Art-Public Values (5.0 ECTS)
Thesis (20.0 ECTS)
In addition to these mandatory components, each student follows three electives
Specialisation course 1 (5.0 ECTS) (on the chosen track)
Specialisation course 2 (5.0 ECTS) (on the chosen track)
Specialisation course (5.0 ECTS) (either a specialisation course on the track or a course from one of the other tracks of Public Administration)

The Institute of Public Administration also offers the MSc Crisis and Security Management and the MSc Management van de Publieke Sector. Both were tracks within Public Adminstration before.

Through uSIS you will be able to:

Access your examination results
Register for examinations (if applicable) and cancel registrations.
Register for seminars and cancel registrations.
Change your study address.

When to register in uSIS?

Students are required to register for each course and each examination separately. This is possible from four weeks up to ten days before the start of the course or the date of the examination.
If you for what ever reason you cannot register for a course, please send an email to onderwijsbsk@fsw.leidenuniv.nl and ask the staff members to register you and do this BEFORE THE DEADLINE. Please mention your student number!

BlackBoard

All students have access to the course materials that are posted on the Blackboard system, an e-learning tool for online learning and instruction. Blackboard facilitates the exchange of messages and documents between students and lecturers and among students. You can log in using your ULCN account, which consists of a username and a password.
Go to blackboard and then to ‘courses’. You need to enrol. It is important to check your courses on this site on a regular basis, since most of the information (literature, sheets, assignments, changes in the schedule) will be posted on Blackboard. Please note that you cannot register for a course through Blackboard. Registration for courses is only possible via uSIS (see above)!

When to enrol in Blackboard? When is the Black opened?

Since Blackboard is not used as a means of official registration for courses, the co-ordinator of the course can decide whether he or she wishes to make use of Blackboard and when the relevant page will be made available to the students. If the students wants to know whether or not the co-ordinator intends to use blackboard, the student can best contact the co-ordinator.

The ULCN account

The ULCN account gives you access to all the necessary IT facilities of Leiden University until you have completed your programme. Together with the account, you are automatically assigned an e-mail box (uMail box).
